I LOVE WOMEN

The Vagina Monologue has a catchy name and I have heard people talk about how interesting it is. V-day is an organization that was created in order to stop any and every kind of violence against women all over the world. It was started by Eve Ensler after all the women that showed interest in sharing their stories after a 1994 play written by her called The Vagina Monologues. The non profit organization did not actually get established until 1998 in New York City, they ally with different organizations across the world that have different ways of educating people and showing how women should be empowered, not hurt and abused. The mission of V-Day is to completely stop women violence across the world with different innovative ways, a world where women do not have to worry about surviving and just live. Women are current beaten, raped, mutilated, forced into slavery and taken advantage of many different ways.I think that the only reason women are treated in this fashion is because we have always seen a white male as the dominant figure that "should" be able to do as he please how he please while women just play the background and do what are told. There are some people who have not realized that this is insane because we all come from women.

My family is original from Puerto Rico but I was born here in Boston and have not left, lived in all different parts of Boston now currently stay in Roxbury. I came to social work because I grew up around people that I always wish I could help and point in the right direction but never knew how to. I was originally an accounting major and realized that although it was easy and there was plenty of money in it, I did not see myself doing that for long and thats when I started to evaluate what I was good at and here I am now. What interest me most about social work practice with communities and organizations is that this is the easiest way to really make a difference in peoples life. If you have a "terrible" community that also looks terrible this community will continue to go down hill and produce the same product of people, so if you change people and their views within it you will slowly see change, at least thats how I feel. This semester I just really want to know how to impact communities with small committees and organizations because I can say that I want to give back to the community but I do not know where to really start.
A comfortable, talkative class that is hands on with things instead of just the teacher strictly talking to you makes it a great class, especially when all students are willing to give input. If I could have one magical power I think it would be to be able to teleport anywhere at any given moment because I have always wanted to travel to different parts of the world within seconds and I love to be able to see my family at any given moment. I do not know if you guys will find this interesting but I love to FOOD ( I like to try different kinds of food), I love to spend time with my nephews whenever possible and will drop almost anything for them. I can watch any kind of movie all day long as long as it has a plot to it, the genre and quality does not really matter to me and last but not least LOYALTY to my family ( that includes people who are not blood related that i consider family) is the most important thing in life to me.
On my off time if Im not spending it with the family I like to shoot hoops because I can just zone out and not care about anything else. There are way too many social problems to just choose one but I guess I will have to go with violence at the moment because it has been out of control, all the way down to pre-teens. My dream job would have to be playing in the NBA but i guess i can settle for working on a national level with a group such as the Office of Minority health or something of that nature where I can advocate for something that people have pushed to the side and still want to cut funds for.
